A Lawyer’s Newest Resolution To Stay Out Of Trouble – 2022

A Lawyers Newest Resolution

\"\"

Legal productivity is being slammed by a toxic work culture according to a recent survey from across the pond. This may come as no surprise to legal workers here in the United States, as the relentless pressure of law practice often creates a toxic culture in law departments. In many cases, this comes from the management level with toxic bosses and “pie-duckers” rampant in some companies. What can be done? Ref0rm is needed, but the legal profession is not known for embracing change, and when it does, it often comes glacially rather than when needed to ameliorate the real problems at hand.

At the large, tastefully-appointed Sneden’s Landing Townhouse, the Deputy Mayor of New York has just shot himself on the eve of his tenth wedding anniversary celebration.  Though only a flesh wound, the host lies bleeding in the other room, and his wife Myra is nowhere in sight. Expecting four more couples at any minute, his lawyer, Ken, and Ken’s wife, Chris, must get “the story” straight before the other guests arrive. As the confusions and mis-communications mount, the evening spins off into classic farcical hilarity.

The Drowsy Chaperone

Winner of 5 Tony Awards including Best Book and Best Original Score, The Drowsy Chaperoneis a Jazz Age parody of American musical comedy of the 1920s. This uproarious show-within-a-show concerns a middle-aged, asocial musical theatre superfan; as he plays the record of his favorite musical, the (fictional) 1928 hit The Drowsy Chaperone, the show comes to life onstage in his shabby high rise apartment. Lovers on the eve of their wedding, desperate bumbling friends, not-so-bright characters, imposters, and more performs one toe-tapping musical number after another.

Little Shop of Horrors LogoLittle Shop of Horrors is a delectable sci-fi horror musical with an electrifying 1960s pop/rock score by Alan Menken and Howard Ashman. Seymour Krelborn is a meek and dejected assistant at a floral shop who happens upon a strange plant, which he affectionately names “Audrey II” after his crush at the shop. Little does he know that this strange and unusual plant will develop a soulful R&B voice, a potty mouth, and an unquenchable thirst for HUMAN BLOOD. As Audrey II grows bigger and meaner, the carnivorous plant promises limitless fame and fortune to Seymour, as long as he continues providing a fresh supply of blood. Just when it’s too late, Seymour discovers Audrey II’s extra-terrestrial origins and his true drive for world-domination.

California Suite

A humorous confection divided into four parts:
In Visitor from New York, Hannah, a magazine writer, is joined by her ex-husband, the question being with whom should their daughter spend the next six months? The banter flies fast and furious, but Hannah’s well-wrought artifice crumbles as her fears take hold. The Visitor from Philadelphia is a wife who arrives at the suite, catching her husband “en flagrante delicto” with a drunken hooker. Visitors from London Academy Award nominee Diana returns from the ceremony empty-handed to her husband, Sidney, whose homosexuality will be no comfort tonight. The Visitors from Chicago are two couples ending a disastrous vacation they should not have shared. Neil Simon at his most humane, compassionate best.

West Side Story

WSS_Logo

West Side Story takes place on New York’s West Side in the mid-1950s amidst widespread racial and social tension. The show begins as a war is building between two rival gangs fighting over the same piece of turf: born and bred New York boys, The Jets, and Puerto Rican immigrants The Sharks. In the midst of the battlefield are two young romantics, good-boy Tony, a Jet ready to leave the gang life behind, and wide-eyed Maria, the sister of Sharks leader, Bernardo. When Tony and Maria unexpectedly meet and fall for one another, tension between the rival groups only escalates, leading to a bloody and senseless rumble that costs both sides young lives. In spite of the violence, the true story at the core of the show is two lovers trying to find a way to be together—and whether either can survive when hate and ignorance are unwilling. From the first notes to the final breath, West Side Story is one of the most memorable musicals and greatest love stories of all time. Arthur Laurents’ book remains as powerful, poignant and timely as ever. The score by Leonard Bernstein and Stephen Sondheim is widely regarded as one of the best ever written.

A House Divided

A world premiere! Drawing on real events, this musical provides an intimate look at the Lincoln family’s personal and political struggles during their White House years.  Despite enormous odds, personal loss and political intrigues, the Lincolns overcome their divided “houses”  (family, cabinet and country), relying on their love, wit, wisdom, strength of  conviction, and the help of unlikely allies.  The story of Lincoln’s and our nation’s ultimate triumph, and the tragedy of his still-unfinished legacy, will touch your heart and mind.
